ShadowFreeze 1.0.6 Released – Hotfix

ShadowFreeze 1.0.6 fixes an important persistence issue that could corrupt the Windows SYSTEM registry hive when committing changes to C: after resuming a persistent frozen state. Updating is strongly recommended, especially for users relying on persistence and committing changes to the system drive. This release also fixes the persistence mode checkbox, which stopped working correctly in version 1.0.5.

Exempt folder handling has received substantial reliability and performance improvements. Moving folder trees into exempt locations now correctly preserves their contents, addressing cases where only the top-level folder persisted or moved folders returned as zero-byte files. A related issue that could cause folders moved into exempt locations on exFAT to be lost after reverting has also been resolved. Folders marked exempt shortly before freezing are now correctly protected.

Copying data into exempt folders is now much faster and uses significantly less shadow storage. This update also resolves large copies stalling at 99% or making the system unresponsive, repeated delays when accessing large files, and slow operations when moving or deleting large files out of exempt folders. Moves between exempt folders now use a rename instead of unnecessarily copying the data.

Commit operations can now apply deletions alongside other changes, or commit deletions only. Background operations also gain tray notifications, with a nearby progress window and balloon notifications for failures. The progress window’s positioning and layout have been corrected, and ShadowCli now includes the -commit_path, -events, and -jobs options.
